Is It Open?

Winter and summer hours for key rural locations. Half of what's open in July is closed by November.

Summer (May–September)

Nearly everything is open. Cafés at waterfalls, rural pools, museums and restaurants run full hours. Expect queues at popular service stops.

Winter (October–April)

Many waterfall cafés and some pools close entirely. Hours shorten. Gas stations close earlier. Reykjavík and Akureyri keep most things open.

Always open

  • Self-service gas stations (Olís, Atlantsolía) — some are open 24/7
  • 10-11 convenience stores in Reykjavík — open 24/7
  • Pharmacies in the capital area — on-duty pharmacies evenings and weekends
  • Emergency number 112 — always open

Practical tips

  • Check opening hours on Google Maps or the venue's website — they change often.
  • Despite "winter hours", places may close in bad weather or due to staff shortages.
  • Rural gas stations often close at 20:00–21:00 in winter — fill up early.
  • Many fast food and pizza places stay open late — especially in Reykjavík.
  • Public holidays may have special hours — some close, others extend.
