Payment in Iceland

Tipping, currency and card usage

No tipping in Iceland

Tipping is not customary in Iceland. Service charges are included in prices. It is not expected or required. If you receive exceptional service, a small amount is appreciated but entirely optional.

Cards are king

Iceland is one of the most card-friendly countries. Visa and Mastercard accepted everywhere. American Express less so.

Cash

You almost never need cash. Even at roadside stops and remote places, cards are accepted. Keep a small amount for emergencies only.
