Before you board

  • Boats on Jökulsárlón only run in the summer months. Outside the season you view the lagoon from the shore and the ice that washes up on the beach.
  • Book ahead in July and August: puffin sails and iceberg tours often sell out days in advance.
  • It is colder at sea than on land. Dress in layers and take seasickness tablets in advance if you are prone to it.
  • Rough seas can cancel a sailing at short notice, so keep some flexibility and check the forecast the day before.
